The most spectacular beaches of Lefkada are found along the west coast and in the south of the island, where towering white cliffs plunge into a turquoise sea with unique reflections. Here, you'll find the most iconic bays, such as Porto Katsiki and Egremni, accessible by land or boat.

Further south, beaches like Vasiliki attract windsurfing enthusiasts thanks to the constant winds. Each shoreline has its own character, but the western side offers the most dramatic and untamed landscapes.

1 Egremni Beach

The Wild Essence of Lefkada

I love this slice of paradise Egremni Beach is one of the most spectacular and untouched beaches in Lefkada, and the most energetically intense. It stretches for nearly two kilometers beneath towering white cliffs that rise over 150 meters above the sea, creating a truly breathtaking landscape.

Not a Beach for Everyone

Getting here requires determination: 355 suspended metal steps anchored to the white limestone cliffs lead down to the beach. It’s a descent that tests your endurance, but with every step, you get closer to one of the most stunning coastlines in the Mediterranean.

The effort is rewarded the moment your feet touch the whitish sand, and your gaze is lost in the crystal-clear water, shifting through endless shades of blue.

Before the landslide, Egremni Beach was much deeper, with a larger shoreline that extended further into the sea. After the landslide, the beach was significantly reshaped, and the number of visitors diminished, which has allowed the beach to retain its more authentic charm, free from the crowds that once frequented it.

Here, you won’t find the comforts of organized tourism—Egremni has preserved its wild, unspoiled nature. The only touch of modernity is a small seasonal kiosk, very simple and minimal. Be sure to bring water, an umbrella, and everything you need for the day, because once you’re down here, you won’t want to leave until sunset.

The vast expanse of the beach ensures that you can always find your own private paradise, even in high season. The sea, often calm in the morning, can become rougher in the afternoon as the wind picks up, creating a mesmerizing spectacle of waves crashing against the shore.

2 Milos Beach

A Natural Amphitheater on the Ionian Sea

Nestled between two rocky headlands, Milos Beach is a breathtaking sight at first glance. It is my favorite beach in Lefkada, precisely because its limited accessibility keeps it intimate and authentic, far from mass tourism.

To reach it, you must tackle a challenging trail that takes about 15–20 minutes to walk. The path is narrow, scattered with stones, protruding roots, and bushes, making it unsuitable for everyone—definitely not recommended for people with mobility issues or families with very young children. But it’s precisely this “natural selection” that preserves the magic of the place.

Once you arrive, the beach opens up like a natural amphitheater, where golden sand meets crystal-clear waters that transition from turquoise to deep blue. Fortunately, despite its wild nature, there is a small bar where you can refresh yourself after the walk. For those who prefer to avoid the trail, there’s a more convenient alternative: a water taxi from Agios Nikitas—a practical solution that also offers a pleasant mini-cruise.

4 Kathisma

Where Fun and Beauty Meet

Easily accessible (no stairs!), Kathisma is one of the most lively and well-equipped beaches in Lefkada, where natural beauty blends seamlessly with modern comforts. A vast stretch of white sand extends for over a kilometer, kissed by crystal-clear waters that shift from turquoise to deep blue. Towering white cliffs frame the beach, creating a breathtaking postcard-perfect setting.

Unlike its wilder counterparts, Kathisma offers all the amenities one could wish for: trendy beach bars, neatly arranged sunbeds and umbrellas, beachfront restaurants, and adrenaline-pumping water sports. The music from the beach bars blends harmoniously with the sound of the waves, creating a vibrant yet relaxed atmosphere. If you seek more privacy and tranquility, head to the southern section beyond the rocky area—you'll find a secluded and peaceful stretch of beach.

The beach is easily reachable by car, with ample parking, making it an ideal destination for families and groups. Despite its popularity, its expansive shoreline ensures that everyone can find their perfect spot—whether to enjoy the lively energy of the beach bars or the serenity of the quieter areas.

5 Gialos Beach

Once past this beach, you’ll find yourself at Megali Petra Beach, a true gem of Lefkada’s western coast, named after the massive rock formations scattered along the shore.

Here, nature reigns supreme, with crystal-clear turquoise waters and a beach of mixed sand and pebbles—perfect for those seeking tranquility and authenticity. Access requires a short but steep descent, which helps keep it less crowded compared to other beaches on the island.

8 Agios Ioannis Beach

Additionally, right behind the beach, there is a convenient free parking area, with some shade provided by olive trees, making access even easier. If you're not a fan of sand, this beach is perfect for you!

For those looking for a nature-immersed experience, the small hillside villages provide a perfect retreat. Additionally, Lefkada boasts high-quality local products, such as olive oil, honey, fig, and grape jam, all reflecting the island’s rich and generous land.

The only real challenge? Accessing some of the island’s beaches. Limited parking, long staircases, and walking trails are often required to reach these paradise-like spots. But in the end, the most beautiful things in life always require some effort.

When to Visit Lefkada?

For a more relaxed experience, June and September are the best months to visit. June is perfect if the weather is good, while September is excellent, offering warm sea temperatures and a peaceful atmosphere. July and August, on the other hand, bring more crowds and a bit of chaos, making them less ideal for those seeking serenity.

Lefkada is an island that leaves a lasting impression, perfect for those who love the sea, nature, and authentic travel experiences. And this island captured my heart!
